One Garden Gates 2021

I made these gates in 2021 as part of the extensive redevelopment of Stanmer Park Gardens (Brighton) these gates are traditionally jointed and have been coated with a Zinc spray an gloss black paint to provide a long lasting and durable finish. These gates were designed in such a way that they provide security to for the garden area overnight without being too imposing or discouraging to passers by when in their closed position. These gates could very simply be automated if they were in a different setting but in this instance due to the hinging system they can easily be opened with a fingertip (no mean feet for a 3m tall set of gates).

Mackintosh Gate 2020

This project was unusual for me as the customer (a repeat customer in Ruckinge, Kent) had a very clear idea of what they wanted, along with an accurately drawn up design. My job for this project was to work with the customer to turn his drawing into something that could be realised in forged steel. What we ended up with was this rather striking garden gate inspired my the works of Rennie Mackintosh.

Other Gates

Butterfly gate 2018

This gate serves as the entrance to the rough bank nature reserve in Gloucestershire, which is a butterfly conservation area. This commission was the result of winning the Richard Seager design competition for 2018.

Blamey gates 2017

These gates were my first large scale piece as a self employed blacksmith. They were made for my grandparents house in Appledore, Kent where they hade the bins and keep the dogs from escaping the garden!

Gove gate 2021

This gate was made for a lovely couple in Ruckinge (Kent), they wanted the gate to compliment the chain fencing outside their property, and to feature traditional joinery to reflect the arts and crafts design found throughout their home.

Weave gate (tall) 2023

This is one of two matched garden gates intend to provide privacy and security to a lovely property in Rye, (East Sussex). The gates are galvanised to provide a long lasting and natural weathering finish.

Peacock gate concept 2024

This is an example of the sort of design drawing you will receive if you ask us to design and quote for a gate, in this case the customer wanted a stylised Art Nouveau peacock to be the main visual theme.

Sissinghurst pond cover 2024

I was approached to make this pond cover by a customer in Sissinghurst (Kent) to keep their grandchildren safe and out of the pond. They wanted a fairly light design so in the end we settled for horizontal crossing bars with ripples in steel to provide some extra structure and visual interest, the cover is made in 4 panels so that it can be lifted in and out simply when the pond needs cleaning or maintenance.

Handrails

Spiral handrails 2022

I made and installed these handrails for a property in Biddenden (Kent) while doing some contract work for Michael Hart. The organic spirals at the end of the rails are intended to soften the ironwork and help it sit more in keeping with the flowerbeds around it.

Scrolled handrail 2022

Another rail made by myself while working on contract for Michael. This handrail was made for a garden space in Brenchly (Kent), it features traditional forged motifs such as bolt end, ribbon and snub end scrolls, and has been joined using rivets and collars, to give a grand and traditional feeling of quality.

Sleeper rails 2022

These handrails were made for a customer in Tonbridge Wells (kent) to complement the sleepers and stairs in their newly landscaped garden and to make the lower garden more accessible for elderly residents.

Holiday cottage handrails 2023

These scroll ended galvanised handrails were made for a newly finished holiday cottage in Harrietsham (Kent) to ensure that guests staying in the cottage have safe and easy access.

Sleeper spiral rail 2023

This handrail was made for a lovely garden in Rye (East Sussex), the handrail was needed to make the steep stairs safer for use for the customers elderly relatives, this rail is galvanied so will weather natural over time while retaining structural integrity.

Blamey Handrail 2023

This short but sweet handrail was installed for a couple living in Appledore (Kent) to provide a bit more stability to their footing in the winter months.
