Wingham Staircase and balustrade 2023 - Materials: forged steel and bronze - Photos by Christopher Kemp

This contemporary interior staircase is was made form solid oak, heavily textured steel plates, glass tread risers, and a forged and polished bronze handrail. Situated in a very modern house in Wingham, (Canterbury) in Kent this staircase is the first thing you see when you walk into the property and sets the tone for the contemporary interior design of the building. We worked alongside expert carpenters during the completion of this piece to ensure that the staircase lasts as long as the building it sits within.

Live edge table 2024 - materials: hardwood and steel - Photos by Media 25 Photography

This was one of the more interesting challenges of 2024, I was approached by a regular customer who asked me to create a table using a unique and rather striking piece of timber. The table would need to sit flat and level at an exact height in-spite of the inconsistent nature of the timber (there is not a single flat or level section on the underside of the table. I designed the table below avoiding straight lines which I felt would look out of place with the live edge timber top, the customer agreed so we ended up with a rather striking series of intersecting curves that make up this forged console table. Unfortunately I was unable to photograph this piece in its final location so this was photographed by Tim Nathan at Media 25 Photography in Hastings (East Sussex).

 Pound Cottage balustrade - 2024

While not easy to photograph this little balustrade was one of the more enjoyable challenges of 2024 for me. A balustrade was needed to childproof the stairway at pound cottage as the customer was expecting a baby. The balustrade needed to fit within the existing joists (both physically and aesthetically) the design was kept relatively light so as not to dominate the space.

Twinned scroll curtain poles - 2024

I made these twinned scroll curtain rails in 2024 to outfit the newly extended restaurant space at the Ferry Inn in Stone (Kent). The poles were designed to match the existing interior decor of the restaurant which heavily features natural materials and organic colour tones.

Contemporary scrolled balustrade - 2024

This contemporary little guard rail was made in 2024 for protect customers using the newly build restaurant area in the Ferry Inn, Stone (Kent) from a nasty fall. The style is intended to match in the the other ironworks featured throughout the Pubs interior decor.

Riveted Fire hood - 2024

I was approached by a regular customer to consult on their fireplace which was not drawing correctly and was in dire need of replacement. So match the decor in the house we settled on a riveted fire hood with curving sides to accelerate the smoke up the chimney. Now the chimney is drawing well and the fire is burning cleanly.

Ridge Lamps 2018 - Material: forged and patinated steel

Made as mood lighting for a Customer in Central London, these “Ridge lamps” were forged using repurposed heavy industrial steel section to striking modern lighting for a gallery space. Each set of lamps had a different composition and patina to complement the pieces they were situated next to. The lighting is provided by twined led strip lights attached to runners on the back of the lamps to provide a subtle and soft backlighting. I was unable to photograph these lamps in their final location so they are photographed in a studio by a photographer friend.

Grasp Shelves 2016 - Materials: Forged steel and hardwood

The grasp shelves were my first foray into the realm of interior design, specifically furniture design. They were created as the final piece of my degree in Artist Blacksmithing at Hereford College of Arts, for which I won a number of awards for design, manufacturing quality and creativity. My ambition with this with this piece was to create a scalable, modular and adjustable shelving system to provide versatile storage and display opportunity within the home.
