From complete feature staircases and contemporary balustrades to architectural railings and guarding, every project we undertake is designed specifically for its building, surroundings and the people who use it.

Working from our forge in Kent, we combine traditional blacksmithing and hand-forged detailing with contemporary design and modern fabrication to create distinctive steel staircases, balustrades and railings.

Each commission is carefully developed from initial design and site survey through to forging, fabrication and final installation. We regularly work alongside architects, builders and other specialist trades to ensure every element is considered.

We create bespoke staircases, railings and balustrades for residential and commercial properties across Kent, Sussex, Surrey and London, with each piece individually designed, handcrafted and made to last.

Wingham Staircase & Balustrade – Wingham, Kent

This bespoke contemporary staircase and balustrade was created for a modern home in Wingham, near Canterbury, Kent. The design combines solid oak treads, heavily textured hand-forged steel plates, glass risers and a forged and polished bronze handrail.

Positioned prominently within the entrance to the property, the staircase creates an immediate architectural focal point and helps establish the character of the contemporary interior.

We worked closely with specialist carpenters throughout the project, bringing together traditional blacksmithing, architectural metalwork and fine joinery to create a staircase that is both sculptural and functional. Every element was carefully considered and made to provide a durable, long-lasting feature designed specifically for the building.

Beecham Stair Balustrade 2026 - Material Steel and Bronze

This bespoke balustrade was designed to provide compliant guarding while preserving the light, open character and sight lines of a contemporary interior. Individually forged and tapered steel uprights create a visually lightweight structure, with traditional riveted and tenon joints celebrating the craftsmanship behind its construction. Antiqued bronze handrails introduce warmth, contrast and a tactile finish. Careful surveying and collaboration with the building contractor allowed the balustrade to be securely installed around underfloor heating and irregular stone walls, resulting in a unique piece of architectural metalwork designed specifically for its setting.

Tapered Spindle Balustrade – Tenterden, Kent

This bespoke forged steel balustrade was designed and made for a contemporary interior in Tenterden, Kent, combining traditional blacksmithing techniques with clean, understated architectural detailing.

Each spindle is individually hand-forged from a single piece of steel, transitioning from a square section to round before gradually tapering along the length of the bar. The natural texture created during the forging process has been deliberately retained, giving the steelwork a tactile, handcrafted finish.

Paired with warm oak top rails and staircase handrails, the forged steel creates an elegant contrast between metal and timber. The finished balustrade provides practical guarding while complementing the light, contemporary character of the interior.

Contemporary Scrolled Balustrade – Stone, Kent

Created in 2024, this bespoke steel balustrade was designed and made for the newly built restaurant area at The Ferry Inn in Stone, Kent. The balustrade provides essential guarding around a change in floor level while complementing the character of the surrounding interior.

The flowing scrollwork was designed to coordinate with the existing decorative ironwork found throughout the pub, ensuring the new addition felt sympathetic to its setting. Combining traditional blacksmithing with contemporary fabrication, the finished balustrade provides a practical safety feature while adding a distinctive piece of handcrafted architectural metalwork to the restaurant interior.

Pound Cottage Balustrade – 2024

This bespoke steel balustrade was one of the more interesting design challenges of 2024. Commissioned to provide additional safety around the staircase at Pound Cottage ahead of the arrival of a new baby, the balustrade needed to integrate carefully with the existing structure of the property.

Designed to fit within the exposed timber joists, both physically and aesthetically, the steelwork was deliberately kept light and understated so it would not dominate the interior. The finished balustrade combines traditional blacksmithing with considered contemporary design, creating a practical safety feature that sits naturally alongside the existing timber and character of the building.
